Carl I started out with only a circular saw and a drill/driver too. Almost everything can be done with basic tools though it does get easier and faster (and easier to get precise cuts) with more advanced tools. Some projects don’t require precision. I’m totally good with “good enough” with most things.

Im a beginner interested in getting into wood working, and this made a early terrific project, particularly coupled with the extensive pictures, and completely detailed written directions. Managed this job with only a circular saw, and while i can see how more tools would make it significantly more precise, the design of this build seems tolerate, rather than punish some imprecision. Appreciate it!
